The Combat: Fourteen Weapons, Infinite Mastery

All 14 weapon types from Monster Hunter World return — each with its own complete combat system, movesets, and playstyle philosophy. From the slow, devastating Great Sword to the acrobatic Insect Glaive, the poisoning Dual Blades to the artillery-adjacent Bowgun, every weapon is a self-contained skill tree that takes dozens of hours to truly master.

Wilds introduces Wound mechanics — during combat, particularly aggressive or sustained attacks in the same location create wounds on a monster's body. Attacking wounds with specific moves triggers Burst states that deal significantly increased damage and can force monsters into vulnerable positions. Monster Hunter World veterans — The familiar loop is here, elevated. Wilds is a more ambitious game in almost every dimension, and the post-launch content additions mean there is now a genuine wealth of endgame content to explore.

Lapsed players who bounced at launch — If PC performance drove you away in early 2025, the game in April 2026 is worth a second look. The optimization improvements are real and significant.
