A Historic Moment: Halo Comes to PlayStation

Before we talk about the game itself, we need to mention what is truly revolutionary: for the first time in franchise history, Halo: Campaign Evolved will launch simultaneously on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5 in 2026. 

Community manager Brian Jarrard confirmed that "Halo is — and will remain — on PlayStation from now on"  — a statement that marks the end of one era and the beginning of a new one for one of the most iconic franchises in gaming history.

Rebuilt From Scratch in Unreal Engine 5

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a complete remake of the campaign component of Halo: Combat Evolved (2001), the first game in the franchise — developed in Unreal Engine 5, with enhanced visuals and a reimagined mission set that includes redesigned levels and new missions, mechanics, weapons, and narrative additions compared to Combat Evolved. 

The goal is to deliver a remake that captures the atmosphere and tone of Halo CE, while improving aspects such as map navigation and weapon gameplay. Levels have also been reexamined, with updates necessary for modern players — including adjustments to the pacing of Flood encounters, additional ambient storytelling, and even new lines of dialogue. 

Three New Missions: The Story Before the Legend

Perhaps the most surprising addition is the entirely new content. Join Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson in a brand new story arc, with new environments, gameplay, characters, and enemies across three prequel missions set before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved. 

These missions introduce "new characters, enemies, environments, and hazards" — expanding the Halo universe with original canonical content that fans have never seen before. 

Expanded Arsenal: 9 New Weapons

Master Chief's arsenal now includes nine new weapons — all originating from other games in the franchise. His collection now includes the Needle Rifle, Battle Rifle, Sentinel Beam, Fuel Rod Cannon, and Energy Sword  — the latter being usable by players for the first time in Combat Evolved, after being limited to enemies in the original.

Also for the first time in Halo: CE, you can hijack enemy vehicles and pilot a fully functional Wraith, creating unforgettable chaos on the battlefield. 

Four-Player Co-op and Cross-Play

Halo: Campaign Evolved includes online co-op for four players on consoles and PC, two-player local split-screen on consoles, and full cross-play between platforms with shared progression. 

The Campaign Remix system allows players to return to any mission and remix the experience with the most Skulls in the history of any Halo campaign — optional modifiers that dramatically change gameplay with randomized weapons, modified enemy behavior, player attributes, and environmental effects. 

Game Pass, Steam, and All Platforms

Halo: Campaign Evolved comes in 2026 to Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, with support for Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere — and arrives on day one in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. 

When Exactly Does It Launch?

An exact date has not yet been announced, but the intent appears to be a launch around the franchise's 25th anniversary — on November 15, 2026. There are also rumors of a summer 2026 window, to avoid the colossal GTA VI, which launches on November 19.
