BlizzCon Returns Offline — And It Returns With Force

BlizzCon 2026 takes place on September 12-13 at the Anaheim Convention Center, offering a massive competitive program with a total prize pool of over $1.2 million dollars, covering titles from across Blizzard's legendary catalog. 

While the festival is primarily a celebration of game launches and community culture, the 2026 edition leans heavily into its competitive roots, with a mix of modern titans and nostalgic battles — from World of Warcraft to Heroes of the Storm. 

The Brand New Addition: Blizzard Classic Cup

The surprise of the event is the Blizzard Classic Cup — a completely new tournament that nobody had anticipated.

This is a cross-title competition with a $100,000 prize pool, led by the legendary commentary duo Nick "Tasteless" Plott and Dan "Artosis" Stemkoski. Two teams will compete in a points-based format across four titles: Heroes of the Storm, StarCraft: Remastered, StarCraft II, and Warcraft III: Reforged. 

Matches are divided into high-stakes "Legacy Matchups" — worth 3 points and a $20,000 bonus per match — and more relaxed "Entertainment Matches" worth 1 point. The team with the highest total at the end of the weekend wins the trophy and an additional $20,000 bonus. 

Essentially, "Tastosis" won't just be behind the commentary desk anymore — this time they will be leading teams into battle.

Overwatch World Cup: 10 Years of Legend

The crown jewel of the event for esports fans will undoubtedly be the Overwatch World Cup, marking a full decade of international competition.

In 2026, a total of 52 teams will compete in the program, with 30 teams advancing to the main tournament at BlizzCon: 19 invited teams and 11 wildcard teams that will earn their spots through Conference Cups. 

This will be the first edition of the OWWC since the 2023 edition, when Saudi Arabia made history by winning the championship in an unforgettable tournament. That roster, still active at the highest competitive level, alongside powerhouses like South Korea, the USA, and China, is setting the stage for what promises to be one of the most competitive international tournaments to date. 

World of Warcraft: $600,000 on the Line

WoW fans won't be disappointed. The Arena World Championship and Mythic Dungeon International return after a year-long competitive journey, with Cross-Region matchups and the return of the China region in AWC — a combined prize pool of $600,000. 

AWC moves to a year-round format in 2026, with open qualifiers starting April 8, Season Finals in June, and a six-team Grand Final directly at BlizzCon. 

Hearthstone Masters Tour: $500,000

The Hearthstone Masters Tour will bring the best players from the 2026 season to the stage at BlizzCon, for a total prize pool of $500,000.  The coolest tacticians in the world will converge on Anaheim.

The Road to BlizzCon Starts Now

Qualifiers are already underway. Overwatch World Cup pre-qualifiers run from March through April, with Qualifiers in June, followed by the Group Stage Draw in July and the Group Stage in August.
