A 13-Year Wait

GTA 6 was officially revealed in December 2023 and, following several delays, is now scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. 

GTA 5 was released nearly 13 years ago, and fans are finally living through the last few months of waiting before the long-awaited sequel arrives .

Delays and Controversy

The road to launch has not been without its dramatic moments. The game was originally scheduled for fall 2025, then moved to May 26, 2026, and ultimately pushed to November 19, 2026. 

Rockstar Games publicly stated: "We apologize for the extra time added to a wait we know has already been long, but these additional months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you deserve." 

What We Know About the Game

GTA 6 is an open-world action-adventure game set in the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida, including Vice City (based on Miami), Grassrivers (inspired by the Everglades), and the Leonida Keys. The game parodies American culture of the 2020s, with satirical portrayals of social media, influencer culture, and modern law enforcement. 

The protagonists are Lucia and Jason, a duo whose adventures promise to redefine storytelling within the GTA series.

Enormous Expectations

GTA 6 won the "Most Wanted Game" award at the Golden Joystick Awards and "Most Anticipated Game" at The Game Awards in both 2024 and 2025. 

Analysts at DFC Intelligence estimate sales of 40 million copies and revenues of $3.2 billion in the first year — double the record set by GTA 5 — including one billion dollars from pre-orders alone. 

What's Next

Rockstar Games plans to kick off its marketing campaign in the summer of 2026.  Fans are already speculating that a third trailer could drop in April 2026, based on signals observed in the company's social media behavior and mysterious entries discovered in the PlayStation database. 

One thing is certain: on November 19, 2026, the video game industry will experience one of the greatest moments in its history.
